If you’re applying for a job, visa, residency, or overseas travel, you may be asked to provide a Police Certificate of Character. This document proves whether you have a criminal record in Jamaica. It’s not the same as a police record used locally — it’s mainly for international use. Here’s how to apply for one in 2025, step-by-step.
What Is a Police Certificate of Character?
A Police Certificate of Character is an official background check issued by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). It shows whether you’ve been convicted of any crimes in Jamaica. It’s commonly required for:
- Visa applications (Canada, UK, US, etc.)
- Work permits abroad
- Residency or citizenship applications
- Overseas study or immigration programs
Step 1: Prepare the Required Documents
Before applying, make sure you have the following:
- Valid Government-issued ID (passport, voter’s ID, or driver’s license)
- TRN (Taxpayer Registration Number)
- Two passport-sized photographs (must be taken within the last 6 months)
- Fingerprint card (only if applying from overseas)
- Payment (see below)
Step 2: Apply at the Criminal Records Office
