Losing your driver’s license in Jamaica can be stressful, but the replacement process is easier than you might think. Whether it was stolen, misplaced, or destroyed, this 2025 step-by-step guide will help you get your replacement driver’s license quickly and legally.

Step 1: Report the Loss to the Police

Your first step is to make an official report at the nearest police station. This report helps prevent fraud and proves you are taking the proper legal steps.

  • Go to the police station in the parish where the license was lost
  • Provide a statement explaining when and how it was lost or stolen
  • Request a signed police report

💡 Note: Keep a copy of the report for your records. You’ll need to submit it during the application process.

Step 2: Visit a Tax Office That Offers Licensing Services

Head to a branch of the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) that handles driver’s licenses. Not all TAJ locations offer this service, so visit a major branch like:

  • Spanish Town
  • Montego Bay
  • Kingston (Constant Spring or Harbour Street)
  • Mandeville

You can also check jamaicatax.gov.jm for the latest list of locations.

Step 3: Bring the Required Documents

When visiting the tax office, bring the following items:

  • Original police report
  • Valid government-issued ID (passport, voter’s ID, or birth certificate with TRN)
  • TRN (Taxpayer Registration Number)
  • Completed Application for Driver’s License Form (F7) — available at TAJ or downloadable online
  • Cash or debit card for payment

Step 4: Pay the Replacement Fee

As of 2025, the cost to replace a lost driver’s license in Jamaica is:

  • JMD $1,800 – Regular Driver’s License
  • JMD $1,050 – Learner’s Permit

You will receive a receipt, and in most cases, your new license will be printed and issued on the same day.

Step 5: Collect Your Replacement License

Depending on location and queue time, your new license may be ready immediately. If not, you will be told when to return for pickup.

  • The new license will have the same expiry date as the original
  • If your old license was set to expire soon, you may be asked to renew instead

Optional: Update Your Records with Insurance or Employers

If you use your license for work or insurance purposes, remember to update the records with your new license copy once you receive it.

Can Someone Else Replace My License for Me?

  • A signed authorization letter from you
  • Copy of your government-issued ID
  • The original police report
  • Completed F7 application form
